Castle Makahuena, A Condominium Resort At Poipu

Head to Kauai island’s southernmost tip and there you’ll find luxury like no other - at Castle Makahuena.

Situated at the famous Poipu beach, the condo-resort lets guests enjoy full sunrise and sunset views. Seventy-nine condominium units house two- and three-story, plantation-style wood buildings, all individually furnished with a distinct look.

Room rates and amenities

Guests can choose among one- ($270-$325), two- ($300-$520), or three-bedroom ($380-475) suites, along with the view they want. Garden View rooms overlook Makahuena’s tropical gardens, filled with hibiscus, bougainvillea and other exotic plant life. For an unobstructed view of the Pacific, guests can opt for ocean front suites.

Stairs provided access to rooms on upper floors, as there are no elevators in this resort. All rooms are equipped with ceiling fans and high-speed Internet access.

Other amenities include the following: coffee/tea maker, hair dryer, balcony, cribs (upon request), free local calls, clock radio, in-room safe, iron/ironing board, kitchen, microwave, cookware/dishes/utensils and refrigerator.For guests staying longer than seven days, housekeeping services are provided for free. Children who are 17 years old and younger can stay for free, with existing bedding. Additional beds may be requested at an extra charge.

Parking is complimentary for all guests here at Castle Makahuena. Babysitting services may be requested when needed. A whirlpool/hot tub is readily available for guests looking for rest and relaxation. A safe deposit box is available at the front desk. Pets are not allowed in Castle Makahuena.

Activities and other features

The resort has its own pool, tennis courts, and barbecue area, but guests at Castle Makahuena are within easy access to different activity-filled areas in Kauai. Closest is Poipu Beach, where the waters are gentle enough for snorkeling. Also nearby are Mahaulepu and Shipwreck beaches, where whale-watching, sailing, kayaking, fishing, parasailing and surfing/boogie boarding are just some of the favorite activities.

Guests can appreciate more the nearly unspoiled beauty of Kauai by going through laid out hiking trails or by renting a helicopter for a bird’s eye view tour of the island. Horseback riding can be enjoyed by the kids, while the more adventurous can go mountain biking. Golf enthusiasts can trek to the nearby Poipu Bay Golf Course or the Kiahuna Golf Course.

Although the resort does not have its own restaurant, guests will never run out of food choices in the surrounding area. There’s the Plantations Garden Restaurant, Roy’s Poipu Bar and Grill, Beach House Restaurant, Shell’s Steak and Seafood, and Keoki’s Paradise, to name a few.

The Lihue Airport is the closest one to Castle Makahuena, and it is approximately 15 miles or 30 minutes away. After exiting Lihue Airport, continue straight ahead from the first intersection on Ahukini Road. Make a left at Kuhio Highway / Highway 56, and stay on the right lane until it merges with Kaumualii Highway West / Highway 50. Turn left at Maluhia Road / Highway 520 amd follow it for two miles. Make a left when you see Ala Kinoiki Highway on your left (which is also the first intersection). Follow the highway until you reach the Poipu Road intersection. Drive across Poipu Road which turns into Pe'e Road. Castle Makahuena at Poipu is located on the left side of the road, just past The Point at Poipu resort. Castle Makahuena is at 1661 Pe`e Road.
