USS Bowfin Submarine Museum And Park

Located within walking distance of the USS Arizona and USS Missouri at Pearl Harbor on the Island of Oahu, the museum and park pay tribute to the USS Bowfin, which embarked on a tour of duty involving nine war patrols following the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.

In honor of the powerful and voracious Bowfin Shark, the Bowfin lived up to the reputation of its namesake by sinking 44 enemy ships during WWII and earning the title of "Pearl Harbor Avenger". Now berthed in her final resting place in the waters of Pearl Harbor, she stands as a memorial to the victories of the Pacific Fleet following that fateful day in U.S. and Hawaiian history. Visitors can enter the cramped quarters and experience what it was like for the men who worked in silent service.

The waterfront memorial at Bowfin Park is comprised of 52 monuments that honor the 52 U.S. submarines and over 3,500 U.S. submariners who made the ultimate sacrifice by giving their lives for their country. The monuments chronicle the history and career of each submarine, the commanding officers and every serviceman; uniting them as on "eternal patrol" with their vessels.

Also on outdoor display is the Regulus Missile, the USS Parche (SS-384) Conning Tower, which can be boarded, the Imperial Japanese Navy Kaiten Torpedo and the McCann Rescue Chamber, which provided the only successful rescue of 33 men and screw from the sunken USS Squaus.

Inside the museum, the highly-decorated WWII-era Bowfin takes center stage in a 10,000 sq. ft. museum featuring 4,000 submarine-related artifacts, to include recruiting posters, battle flags, models, and the incredible Poseidon Missile. built to honor the contributions of the world-class submarines and brave servicemen who represented what has been said to be the greatest generation of war-time heroes.
